About
The CommUNITY Diversity Group partners with community organizations to make our society work well for everyone!
This year, we are partnering with the schools and other organizations to host a monthly movie series "Expanding Our Circle: Enriching Our Lives" at Lyons Township Performing Arts Center Friday evenings. Jan 11: "The Long Shadow" (race relations), Feb 8: "The Year We Thought About Love" (LGBT Youth), Mar 1: "Miss Representation" (Women in the Media), April 12: "Don't Get Sick After June (Native Americans), May 10: "Accidental Courtesy" (Black Jazz Musician befriends KKK Members), generally 2nd Sat Jan thru May, with follow-up discussions.
We also host the annual Race Unity Rally the 2nd Sunday of Sept at Village Hall and a movie on a diversity topic the Friday prior at the La Grange Library. In May, we host a Scholarship dinner where scholarships are awarded to children up to 8th grade to attend a summer camp of their choice. (We solicit separate donations for this event. Children apply by mid April.)
We also support Caring Place for Kidz after-school program, The LeaderShop, Teens-In-Engineering (TIE), Community Equity for Minority Achievement (CEMA) and the Lacey-Hill Thanksgiving Dinner.
