La Grange Celebrates a Birthday!
Name:
La Grange Celebrates a Birthday!
Date:
August 8, 2019
Event Description:
The Village of La Grange is turning 140, and you're invited to the party! Join the fun at outside Village Hall with local elected officials and civic leaders who will cut a giant replica birthday cake created by ARACELY'S BAKERY...it looks just like Village Hall! And sing "happy birthday" to La Grange.
There will be balloons and tattoos for children and a drawing to win $100 in La Grange Business Association gift certificates. A vintage classic car and over-sized balloon arch will be on display for photo opportunities. The LA GRANGE HISTORICAL SOCIETY will have a fun tent.
The birthday party kicks off a month of fun promotions celebrating the Village’s 140th anniversary from August 8 -- September 8:
FAMILY GAME NIGHT hosted by FAIR GAME and the LA GRANGE BUSINESS ASSOCIATION (LGBA) where families are encouraged to play checkers, chess, and more together outside on colorful game tables on Thursday, August 15.
PALMER PLACE celebrates "Parrot Head-style" with Sandy Beach, Coronas, palm trees, great food, and tasty jams by Kickin' Jimmy on Saturday, August 17.
LA GRANGE HISTORICAL SOCIETY at Trivia Night on Wednesday, August 28 at FOURTEENSIXTEEN.
TATES OLD FASHIONED ICE CREAM will feature a special flavor crafted exclusively for La Grange's birthday. Go on a hunt for 140 wooden nickels hidden around La Grange through Sept. 8, each redeemable for a delicious scoop of ice cream.
Enjoy "throwback cocktails" in La Grange restaurants including BARREL HOUSE SOCIAL, FOURTEENSIXTEEN, LA BUONA VITA, NICKSON'S, PRASINO and STEAK & VINE that are inspired by recipes from the late 1800s.
Wait, there's more! LA GRANGE-OPOLY, a limited edition board game that features local businesses and iconic properties including Lyons Township High School, the historic Stone Avenue Train Station, and the La Grange Theatre, is being sold for a limited time at: ANDERSON'S BOOKSHOP, FAIR GAME, TATES OLD FASHIONED ICE CREAM and HORTONS ACE HARDWARE. Own a piece of La Grange history!
End the birthday celebration with the WEST END ARTS FESTIVAL on September 7-8 near the historic Stone Avenue Train Station. This unique festival celebrates the lively arts community in La Grange with exhibits from over 60 fine artists from throughout the Midwest, culinary demonstrations in The Art of Food Tent, wine samples and education in The Art of Wine Tent, live jazz, art classes and children's activities. Plus a live auction of the colorful game tables displayed throughout La Grange in the "Fun & Games" exhibit.
