La Grange, IL - Sept 7, 2017 - Visitors to the West End Arts Festival Sept 9 and 10 can extend a hand to hurricane victims in a namesake city 1,100 miles to the south by helping to paint a community canvas and donating to a fund that assists families and small businesses in La Grange, Texas.

According to the La Grange (IL) Business Association, donation buckets will be placed in high-traffic locations throughout the art festival to encourage visitors to fund a relief program which helps families who have been displaced from their homes and small businesses which have been impacted by the flooding from Hurricane Harvey. Funds will be distributed through the Rotary Club of La Grange, Texas.

At one donation area, visitors to the West End Arts Festival will be invited to place their individual thumbprints on a community canvas designed to resemble the state of Texas. This painted canvas, donated by Bottle and Bottega, will be presented as a gift to the business community in La Grange, Texas.

In the wine tasting area of the festival, 10% of the total revenue from the sale of bottles of wine in the tent will go towards hurricane relief, as well.

"In a natural disaster of this magnitude, we all want to reach out and help those that have been most affected," said Kathy Dierkes, the LGBA's board president. "And the fact that we share the same name as this community in Texas makes it easier for us to put ourselves in their shoes for a moment. We're happy to use the West End Arts Festival as an opportunity to bring two communities together."

The West End Arts Festival is a 22-year tradition that gathers fine artists from throughout the Midwest to display and sell their work. It also features live jazz and acoustic music, culinary demonstrations from local chefs, wine tastings, historical walking tours and interactive art activities for all ages.

The festival is located in front of the historic Stone Avenue Metra Station at the intersection of Brainard Avenue and Burlington Avenue in La Grange. Hours are Saturday, Sept 9 from 10am - 10pm and Sunday, Sept 10 from 10am - 4pm. A full schedule may be found at LagrangeEvents.com.
